What's inside

The indoor sights

Flagstaff's indoor sights are some of its best: the museum of the whole Colorado Plateau, the observatory where Pluto was found, and a lumber baron's mansion that still looks like 1904.

Lowell Observatory
More than 150 exhibits, theater shows, the Dark Sky Planetarium and the historic Clark refractor dome; telescopes on the deck if the clouds break
Riordan Mansion
An hour inside a 1904 Arts and Crafts home with its original Stickley furniture, then the West House exhibits
Downtown Crag
Ropes and bouldering walls; climbers under 18 need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian

Summer storms

Rain usually means the afternoon

July and August are Flagstaff's wettest months, and the rain mostly comes as afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Hikes fit the morning, and the museum the stormy afternoon.
