Flagstaff with kids

Flagstaff has a drive-through bear park, the observatory where Pluto was discovered, a lava tube and snow for sledding. Several places let young kids in free, and a few have age or height rules.

Quick answers

What is there to do in Flagstaff with kids?

Drive through Bearizona, look through the telescopes at Lowell Observatory, go tubing in the snow, explore Lava River Cave, ride the Grand Canyon Railway or, at Christmas, the Polar Express and the North Pole Experience.

Is Bearizona good for toddlers?

Yes. Children 3 and under get in free, and you see the animals from your own car on the drive-through.

How old do kids have to be for snow tubing?

At Canyon Coaster in Williams it goes by height: at least 36 inches, and kids from 36 to 42 inches ride with an adult. At the Flagstaff Snow Park, little ones use the kiddie hill, the only run where two can share a tube; kids 2 and under pay $5.

What can kids do for free in Flagstaff?

Buffalo Park's 2-mile loop, the petroglyphs at Picture Canyon, the urban trails along the Rio de Flag, and the Junior Ranger activities at the national monuments (the monuments themselves charge an entry fee).

Is the Museum of Northern Arizona free for kids?

Yes, for children 9 and under. Ages 10 to 17 pay $13.

Can kids ski free at Snowbowl?

Yes. The Power Kids Pass is a free season pass for children 12 and under, and you don't need to buy an adult pass.
